SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's tennis team battled the tough international lineup of Goldey-Beacom and the wind on Saturday as it dropped a 6-1 decision to the Lightning in action at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (4-6) won at least two games in all three doubles flights and at least one game in all six singles matches. Sophomore
Brinley Orris picked up her first win of the spring by emerging victorious from a third-set tiebreaker at No. 6 singles. Orris defeated Elina Mukhamadeeva by scores of 6-3, 5-7, 10-7.

Freshman
Jade Miller put forth an excellent battle at No. 3 singles with Nahomi Quinonez, winning eight total games. Quinonez won 7-5, 6-3.

Senior
Yasmin De Meyer performed well at No. 2 singles against the talented Zehra Canbaz but could not break serve. Canbaz won 6-2, 6-3. Sophomore
Rachel Gallagher, who competed at No. 4 singles, also won five total games.

Goldey-Beacom (9-4), a squad that beat Jefferson twice in the fall and Chestnut Hill once, established the momentum on the day with the doubles point. Â

SU will face Goldey-Beacom again in 11 days in Delaware. Before that, the next match for the Raiders is at 1 p.m. Saturday at Salem.
