The Shippensburg University women's outdoor track & field team completed an excellent weekend at Lynchburg on Saturday with seven more first-place finishes in action at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational.
 
The Raiders were fortunate to have a weekend with good weather – 70-degree temperatures and no precipitation – and took full advantage. SU finished the day with 18 performances that satisfied the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) automatic qualifying standards – including a pair of NCAA provisional qualifiers for senior Sasha Lee.
 
Lee became the fourth Raider in school history to clear 40 feet in the triple jump. Her top mark of 40 feet, 9 ¾ inches (12.44 meters) slots her fourth on the NCAA Division II performance list and highlighted a terrific sequence of three opening attempts that all traveled at least 38 feet, 10 ¾ inches (11.84 meters).
 
Her only three long jump attempts all traveled at least 18 feet, 7 ¾ inches (5.68 meters) – with her top mark for the day being 18 feet, 10 ¾ inches (5.76 meters).  
 
Not to be outdone, her 100-meter hurdle race ended up just .02 seconds off her personal best that is tied for second in school history with Caitlin Stuetz. Her dash of 14.09 seconds puts her in 12th place on the national performance list.
 
Alyssa Wert had a strong pair of 400-meter runs – clocking at 57.17 seconds in the open 400 before dropping a 57-second split on the 4x400-meter relay. Emily Calamia ran 58.12 seconds in the open 400, while Calamia, Melanie Barger, Madison Malcolm and Wert teamed up to run 3:55.96 on the relay.
 
Malcolm clocked in at 14.96 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and ran a personal best of 1:03.40 in the 400-meter hurdles that slots her 10th in school history for the event. Barger finished second, close behind in 1:04.43.
 
Riyah Whigham impressed in the horizontal jumps alongside Lee. Whigham posted a triple jump of 38 feet, 4 inches (11.68 meters) that ranks seventh in school history and landed a long jump of 18 feet, 4 ½ inches (5.60 meters). Anne Gardner landed a PSAC cut in the triple jump of 37 feet, 6 inches (11.43 meters).
 
Makayla Decker paced three Raiders who notched PSAC qualifiers in the discus with a top throw of 133 feet, 3 inches (40.62 meters). ShanAnn Simmons had a top throw of 127 feet, 3 inches (38.80 meters). Payton Bauer, back in competition this outdoor season, achieved a PSAC cut of 121 feet, 8 inches (37.10 meters).
 
Simmons paced the Raiders in the shot with a top put of 40 feet, 7 ½ inches (12.38 meters). Decker satisfied the PSAC standard with a shot put of 39 feet, 9 ¼ inches (12.12 meters).
 
Ashley Laukus and Allyson Richwine each cleared 5 feet, 3 inches (1.60 meters) in the high jump.
 
Shippensburg splits its squad next weekend. One group of Raiders will head back to Virginia to compete Friday and Saturday at the prestigious Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary. Another contingent will head to Millersville on Friday and Saturday to compete in the annual Metrics meet.
