SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's tennis team defeated Molloy, winning 5-2 over the Lions in a non-conference match-up Saturday at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (5-8) outlasted Molloy after claiming the doubles point and winning four straight single matches to secure the victory.

At No. 3 singles, freshman
Jade Miller won with a 6-2 and 6-1 triumph over Alice Fartushynska.

Rachel Gallagher earned a win in No. 4 singles, winning two straight sets at 6-4 and 6-2 over Ashley Bonilla.

At No. 5 singles, senior
Brooklynn Rupert claimed a victory over Taylor Gunnip winning two sets, 6-0 and 6-0.

Brinley Orris earned a point for the Raiders in the No. 6 singles after a forfeit from Molloy.

Corinne Markovich had a competitive showing in No. 1 singles against Elena Baughman Saunders, but ultimately dropped straight sets, 1-5 and 6-7.

At No. 2 singles, senior
Yasmin De Meyer won the first set 6-2 against Erin Sanchez. Sanchez forced a tiebreaker after winning the second, 7-6. De Meyer dropped the tiebreaker 3-7.

Kendall Winters and Kalist earned the first point of the day for the Raiders at No. 2 doubles, claiming six games against the Lion tandem of Fartushynska and Bonilla.

At No. 1 doubles, Markovich and Miller had a terrific battle, claiming four games against Baughman Saunders and Sanchez.

The Raiders earned the doubles point in No. 3 singles after a forfeit from Molloy.

SU travels to Kutztown on April 2, to begin their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play at Kutztown. Start time for the match is 3 p.m.
