Wood, Vosburg score twice for SU

The Shippensburg University lacrosse team fell short Saturday despite a spirited first half performance against No. 12-ranked Kutztown in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Keystone Field, 14-7.
 
Shippensburg (5-4, 0-4 PSAC East) tied Kutztown (6-3, 3-1) twice in the early going, and trailed by just two, 6-4, at halftime.
 
Senior Sara Vosburg scoring an unassisted tally after KU struck first, and junior Alyssa Krueger scored her first goal of the season off an assist from teammate Olivia Glinski with 6:49 remaining in the opening quarter to knot the score at 2-2.
 
The Golden Bears took control in the third quarter, outscoring the Raiders 3-0 in the frame and netting six straight goals overall during the second half.
 
Vosburg and junior Shannon Wood scored twice for Shippensburg. Senior Jamie Carvin and freshman Maddie Phommachanh also scored.
 
Junior Grace DeMarzio led the Raiders with four groundballs, while junior Ali Pioli registered a team-best six draw controls. Junior Shawn Coombs tallied two caused turnovers – the first two caused turnovers of her career.
 
Senior Kayla Vosburg tied her season high with 12 stops in the Raider net.
 
Sam Graf countered Shippensburg with three first half goals and four overall on the day to pace the Golden Bears. Lailah El-Bouazzaoui added a hat trick.
 
Shippensburg returns to action when it hosts No. 13 East Stroudsburg Saturday at noon.
