SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team held No. 12 East Stroudsburg scoreless over the final 16 minutes of its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division clash on Saturday but could not overcome an early deficit, dropping a 13-7 decision to the Warriors on a warm and windy afternoon at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (5-5, 0-5 PSAC East) finished with a 15-9 advantage in draw controls, posted a 25-16 advantage in shots on goal, and committed one less turnover than East Stroudsburg (7-3, 4-1), but Warrior goalkeeper Abby Simonetti made a season-high 18 saves to key the visitors.

ESU scored the final three goals of the first quarter to lead 5-2 after 15 minutes. The Warriors added four goals in the final 4:37 of the second quarter to establish a 10-3 halftime advantage. Shippensburg trailed 13-4 with 1:59 left in the third quarter before holding ESU without a shot on goal for the remainder of the game. Simonetti made six saves in that span.

Senior Sara Vosburg scored four goals – marking her sixth hat trick of the season. She added three draw controls and two groundballs.

Freshman Maddie Phommachanh finished with two goals but nearly had more – she hit the post three times on the day. Phommachanh added two groundballs.

Junior Ali Pioli had a goal and two assists. Sophomore Brynn Hauck had an assist. Both Pioli and Hauck had a team-high four draw controls.

Phommachanh, Pioli, Hauck and senior Francesca Picone each had two caused turnovers. Junior Grace DeMarzio had a team-high three groundballs along with two draw controls and a caused turnover.

ESU's Sadie Kauffman scored four times and had three of her team's nine draw controls. Lauren Hallman finished with three goals, an assist, three groundballs and two caused turnovers. Campbell Heller and Jolee Roth combined for five of ESU's seven assists.

Simonetti's .565 save percentage now leads the PSAC and ranks third nationally.

The team welcomed back a healthy contingent of former Raiders as it held an Alumni Appreciation Game. The alumni were escorted through a tunnel formed by the current Raiders and posed for a group photo in a pre-game ceremony.

Shippensburg returns to action at 3 p.m. Wednesday when it heads to West Virginia for its rematch with Shepherd.
