RECAP: Volleyball rallies for five-set win at Bloomsburg

SU overcomes 2-1 deficit to pick up its latest league victory

The Shippensburg University volleyball team endured its sixth five-setter of the season Saturday but completed a rally to achieve a victory, defeating host Bloomsburg 3-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action at Nelson Field House. Set scores were 25-19, 22-25, 17-25, 25-13 and 15-11.
 
Shippensburg (10-6, 3-0 PSAC East) hit .279 in the first set and .294 in the final two sets (17 kills to just four errors on 44 attempts). SU served up 11 more aces, giving it 46 through three conference matches. The Raiders had double-digit aces five times this season.
 
Bloomsburg (7-8, 0-3) hit .375 in the two sets that it won (30 kills, three errors, 72 attempts) but just .066 in the three sets it lost (26 kills, 20 errors, 91 attempts). The Huskies had eight aces but committed 13 service errors.
 
Gracen Nutt paced the Raiders with a season-high 16 kills – two short of her career high. Nutt hit .308, committing just four errors on 39 attempts.
 
Clara Wildermuth also delivered a season high in kills, recording 12 while hitting .222 from the floor. She was one kill short of her career high. Isabelle Bombas had nine kills to just two errors and hit .333. Wildermuth and Bombas each had a solo block and three block assists.
 
Elise Bragg was one kill short of a double-double, ripping nine to go along with 16 digs. Bragg has now totaled double-digit digs in eight matches this season. Hailey Cappleman added five kills and two blocks.
 
Kearstin Davis served four aces – giving her 12 on the week – to complement 39 assists and also 20 digs – a total that matches her season high and is one short of her career high.
 
Berkley Simmons, Jaiden Anderson and Shea Stevens each served two aces. Simmons added eight digs, while Anderson had seven assists.
 
Libero Shay Kolivoski led the team with 21 digs and was perfect on 11 reception attempts. She also handed out three assists.
 
Bloomsburg got 16 kills and two aces from Emily Gustie while Katie Kuehl contributed 12 kills and was one dig short of a double-double. Erin Clark had 29 assists and a team-high 16 digs.  
 
Shippensburg will at long last have its home opener when it entertains Chestnut Hill at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Heiges Field House.
