Bragg leads the SU offense with 11 kills, adds team-high 13 digs

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team swept West Chester in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern division matchup on Friday night at Heiges Field House. Set scores were 25-12, 25-20, 25-21.
 
Shippensburg (17-6, 9-0) recorded 39 kills and hit .192 from the floor. West Chester (16-6, 5-4) ended the match with 28 kills and an .098 hitting percentage. The Raiders served nine aces to the Golden Rams three, with six of those aces from the Raiders coming in the first set. West Chester out-blocked Ship, four to three.
 
The SU offense was led by Elise Bragg, who hit .348 from the floor and totaled 11 kills. Bragg tallied a team-high 13 digs and two block assists. Hailey Cappleman recorded 10 kills, and hit .471 from the floor. Cappleman recorded just two errors on 17 swings. She added a match-high three aces.
 
Kearstin Davis dished out 34 assists and tacked on seven digs and equaled Cappleman with three service aces. Shay Kolivoski paced the Raider defense with 12 digs and an ace.
 
The Raiders pulled ahead early in set one after completing a 4-0 run that included an ace from Gracen Nutt, 7-3. Cappleman delivered back-to-back aces to increase the Raider lead, 10-5. The Golden Rams cut the deficit to three after a 2-0 run. A Bragg kill started a 6-1 scoring stretch for the Raiders, 17-9. Davis notched back-to-back aces to complete a 4-0 run, 21-10. Shippensburg closed set one with another 4-0 run, 25-12. SU hit .219 in set one – the best of the night for the Raiders, only committing two errors on 32 swings.
 
Similar to the first set, SU got an early lead off a 3-0 run that included kills from Bragg and Clara Wildermuth, 7-3. The Golden Rams answered with a 10-1 scoring stretch to give them the lead, 13-9. The Raiders cut the deficit to two after a West Chester error and a kill from Wildermuth, 15-12. Davis recorded a kill that sparked a 5-0 run for the Raiders to gain the lead back, 17-16. A trio of kills from Bragg and an ace from Berkley Simmons completed a 5-0 Raider run, 23-19. Two Golden Ram attack errors ended the second set in favor of the Raiders, 25-20.
 
West Chester opened set three with a 3-0 run. A kill and an ace from Cappleman helped complete a 4-0 run for the Raiders to take their first lead of the set, 7-5. A 4-1 scoring stretch from the Raiders increased the lead to three, 12-9. The Golden Rams answered with a 5-0 run to take the lead, 15-13. A pair of kills from Bragg and a Golden Ram error put SU back in front, 18-17. The Golden Rams took a one-point lead after a 2-0 run, 19-18. Bombas and Bragg delivered kills, 20-19. A kill from Nutt and a West Chester error put the Raiders up by two, 22-20. Kylie Snyder delivered back-to-back kills to close the match, 25-21.
 
The Golden Ram offense was led by Abiah Lane, who recorded eight kills and tacked on eight digs. Lacie Brown handed out 23 assists and recorded 10 digs, an ace and two block assists. The West Chester defense was led by Elianna Freeman and Megan Wolfe who each recorded 13 digs.
 
Shippensburg remains home Saturday to take on Millersville at 1 p.m. at Heiges Field House.
