SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team fell to Lock Haven, 2-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup Wednesday night under the lights at David See Field.
Shippensburg (3-8-3, 1-8-3 PSAC East) had the advantage in corner kicks, 5-2, and outshot Lock Haven (4-8-2, 2-8-2) 6-to-5 in the second half but it was too little, too late in the loss.
Lock Haven scored midway through each half. Olivia Hudson's low, well-placed shot opening the scoring in the 16th minute. Julia Tavares and Sydney Linus were credited with assists.
Bald Eagle forward Maci Shaffer doubled the lead with a vicious long-distance strike in the 60th minute. Shaffer pounced on a SU giveaway in the attacking third of the pitch, ran into space near the edge of the box and unleashed a knuckling blast that found the upper 90.
The Raiders kept pushing despite the deficit and outplayed the Bald Eagles for stretches in the second half but could not find a breakthrough.
Maegan Quinn,
Mia Kemp and
Kaylin Silberstein recorded second-half shots on goal for Shippensburg.
SU goalkeeper
Kirstin Brown tallied four saves.
Shippensburg hosts East Stroudsburg at 2 p.m. Saturday at David See Field. Before the match – SU's final home game of the regular season – the team will honor six seniors:
