RECAP: Women’s Soccer stunned late at Millersville, 2-1

Marauders net game-winner in the 88th minute

The Shippensburg University women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 setback to Millersville in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action Saturday afternoon at Pucillo Field.

Shippensburg (3-7-3, 2-7-3 PSAC East) netted a second-half equalizer off the left foot of Ryleigh Cook, only to see the goal canceled out by a Millersville (7-5-3, 6-4-3) game-winner in the 88th minute.

Millersville's Ashlyn Calabria pounced on a mishandled clearance attempt in the 33rd minute to provide the hosts with the initial edge.

Outstanding build up led to Shippensburg's 55th minute equalizer. Kaitlyn DiCandilo threaded a cross-field pass through three Millersville defenders to create an opening for Hannah Menicheschi on the right side. Menicheschi then laid it off to Ashley Hughes on the wing, who delivered a dangerous cross into the six.

Millersville keeper Alexandria Miranda dove to get a hand on Hughes' feed but could only knock it down in the direction of Cook, who calmly delivered a left-footed finish.

SU goalkeeper Kirstin Brown kept the two teams on level terms for most of the second half despite a 12-to-6 Marauder advantage in shots on goal. Brown matched her season high with 10 saves.

Millersville finally unlocked the SU defense with some neat give-and-go passing in the box between Aubrey Strohecker and Brook Balliet that resulted in Strohecker's tenth goal of the season (third most in the PSAC) – dashing the Raiders' hopes.

Cook and Hughes both finished with two shots on goal for Shippensburg.

Shippensburg returns to David See Field Wednesday to host Lock Haven at 5 p.m.
