The Shippensburg University men's cross country team heads to PennWest Edinboro this weekend for the 2025 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships. The race will be held at the Doug Watts Cross Country Course and the start of the 8K race is set for 11 a.m. Saturday.

The Raiders have won the PSAC Championship in each of the last two seasons. Last year, all five SU scorers were among the Top 9 finishers – marking just the second time in school history that every Raider scorer at the conference meet placed in the Top 10.
It continued an incredible run of consistency for Shippensburg during head coach
Steve Spence's tenure. SU Men's Cross Country has posted a Top 5 PSAC finish in 26 of head coach
Steve Spence's 27 seasons – including a Top 3 finish in 22 of those seasons (five conference titles, 10 second-place finishes, seven third-place finishes).
The Raiders have spent just about the entire month of October preparing for the postseason; their last competition was Friday, Oct. 3 at the Paul Short Run. The extra time for training has been beneficial.
Garrett Quinan and
Ryan Wolfe will be running at the conference meet for the fourth time. Quinan is the two-time defending champion and a three-time All-PSAC finisher (he placed sixth as a rookie in 2022). Wolfe is a three-time All-PSAC runner who has posted Top 10 finishes in back-to-back years after running 29th as a freshman.
Overall, two-thirds of the SU lineup boasts previous experience at the PSAC Championships.
Jackson Gutekunst and
Brennan Wellock will be running in their third conference meet – Wellock was an All-PSAC Second Team finisher last season after finishing one spot shy of all-league honors as a rookie.
Kyle Baker,
Tommy Crum Jr.,
Ben Devine and
Ramon Urena are back for their second straight league meet – Crum, Devine and Urena posted All-PSAC finishes last season.
Brayden Boyd,
Ben Hummel,
Davey Johnson and
Owen Shrader will be running in their first PSAC Championships race.
Saturday marks the first time the PSAC Cross Country Championships have been held at Edinboro since 2018.
About the Doug Watts Cross Country Course:
Spence described the terrain in Edinboro as "flat at the bottom and flat at the top." Connecting the bookends of the course is a 400-meter hill of which the men will ascend and descend three times.
"In preparation, we've done some repeats on the Forest Ridge hill at the other end of town," Spence said. "Forest Ridge is very steep at the bottom and then extends to about 700 meters. It is much more challenging than the hill at Edinboro, so our runners will not be intimidated. That being said, the third time the men run up the Edinboro hill, it will be a grind."
