The Shippensburg University men's soccer team opened the season Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Chestnut Hill in action at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.
Shippensburg (1-0-0) brought the pressure early, scoring on Chestnut Hill (0-1-1) just two minutes into the match. Senior
Ashton Davies finished a diving header in the box off a centering feed from sophomore
Clay Waterman.
Sophomore
Luca Heusser scored the second goal 32 minutes into the first half, with Waterman again providing the assist. Today's match was Heusser and Waterman's debut on the field for the Raiders.
Shippensburg carried this momentum into the second half with junior
Ethan Paulukow , scoring in the 49th minute. Paulukow's goal was assisted by freshman
Ethan Omondi, another Raider playing in his first collegiate match.
Sophomore
Ryan Krumenacker had five saves on the day, proving vital in shutting down Chestnut Hill's offensive attempts. His counterpart, Rodrigo Artiga, was busy for the Griffins, as he finished with 11 saves.
Davies and Heusser each finished with four shots on goal.

It was the first collegiate on-field appearance for four other Raiders: freshman

The win marks the 90th career head coaching victory for
Jeremy Spering, who moves into second all-time in SU history for career men's soccer coaching victories.
Shippensburg's next match is once again on the road; the Raiders face off against Jefferson at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
