SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team defeated Chestnut Hill in four sets to claim the victory in the non-conference matchup at Heiges Field House. The Raiders won the first set and the last two sets to claim their fourth win of the season. Set scores were 25-15, 18-25, 25-13, 25-17.
 
Shippensburg (4-9,) recorded 47 kills on the day and a .230 hitting percentage, while the Griffins (5-5) only totaled 39 kills with a .104 hitting percentage. Shippensburg out-aced the Griffins, 9-3 and out blocked the Griffins, 8-5.
 
Junior Isabelle Bombas led the Raider offense in delivering 11 kills without an error on 18 total swings, hitting .611 from the floor, and adding three blocks. Senior Emily Gardner delivered nine kills and hit .318.
 
Junior setter Kearstin Davis dished out 40 assists, four service aces and added seven digs. Junior defensive specialist Berkley Simmons led the defense with 15 digs. Sophomore libero Shay Kolivoski collected 12 digs.
 
Chestnut Hill was paced by Erika Dubosky who recorded a double-double with a match-high 20 kills and recorded 16 digs while hitting .302 from the floor. Rachel Mace also contributed a double-double for the Griffins with 10 kills and 16 digs.
 
With Davis on the service line the Raiders opened the match with a 12-0 run. Freshman Clara Wildermuth and Gardner both recorded three kills during the scoring run. Kills from sophomore Hailey Cappleman, Wildermuth and two kills from sophomore Natalya Montague, increased the Raiders lead to 18-4. The Griffins made a late 3-0 run to try to cut the deficit, 21-11. Cappleman delivered a kill to end the set, 25-12.
 
Chestnut Hill responded with a 5-1 scoring run to open set two. Kills from Bombas and Cappleman and a Gardner ace put the Raiders within one, 5-4. The Griffins were able to increase their lead with a 5-0 scoring run. SU came within four, 13-9. Chestnut Hill answered with another five-point run to lead 18-9.  The Raiders were unable to cut the deficit, and the Griffins claimed set two, 25-18.
 
The Raiders took an early lead in set three with a 10-1 scoring stretch, 11-4. Junior Kayla Johnson (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale) recorded two kills during the stretch while Kolivoski and Gardner each added an ace. Chestnut Hill closed in on the Raiders with a 4-0 run, making it 12-9. Kills from senior Erica Lampus, Gardner and Bombas increased the Raiders lead to 19-11. SU closed set three with a 6-1 scoring stretch, 25-13.
 
Bombas opened set four with a kill to put the Raiders on the board first. Chestnut Hill scored the next three points to lead 3-1. The Raiders took advantage of four Griffin errors to go on a 4-0 run, 8-5. A kill from Bombas and two Davis service aces increased the lead to 14-10. A 4-1 scoring stretch off a Johnson kill, Lampus ace and two Griffin errors made it 21-15. A 3-0 run that ended with a Bombas kill secured the match win for the Raiders, 25-17.
 
Shippensburg will travel to Kutztown at 7 p.m. Friday for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match at Keystone Arena.
