The Shippensburg University volleyball team secured its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division victory of the season Friday night by sweeping Kutztown on the road. Set scores were 25-19, 25-15, 25-22.

Shippensburg (5-9, 1-1 PSAC East) ended the night hitting .153 from the floor with 33 kills. The Raiders out-blocked the Golden Bears, 9-4. From the service line, Kutztown (1-14, 0-2) collected seven aces while the Raiders delivered six. Kutztown hit .007 from the floor and compiled 30 kills compared to 29 errors.

Kayla Johnson highlighted SU's offense, smashing a career-high nine kills, while committing just one error and hitting .320 from the floor. Senior

Clara Wildermuth also contributed to the offense with six kills each. Gardner ended the night hitting .333 and added seven digs and a block assist while Wildermuth recorded two digs and two total blocks.

Kutztown took an early lead in the first set off three Raider errors. After a Bombas kill and a Golden Bear error, the Raiders tied the set at 3-3. Kutztown took their biggest lead of the set at 11-8. SU responded with a 10-0 scoring run from Davis that featured a block from Wildermuth, two Gardner kills, an ace and six Golden Bear errors to lead 18-11. Kutztown went on a late 4-0 run to try to cut the deficit, 21-18. Simmons delivered an ace to bring the Raiders to set point, 24-19. A kill from sophomore

Shippensburg kept the momentum in the second set. Two kills from Johnson and a service error from Kutztown put SU ahead, 6-4. A 6-0 scoring run that featured back-to-back aces from Simmons, a block from Montague and kills from Gardner and Johnson increased the Raiders lead to 12-5. SU stayed in the lead after a kill from Wildermuth and two Kutztown errors, 17-8. SU held Kutztown to only seven more points throughout the set. A kill from Bombas claimed set two for the Raiders, 25-15.

The third set was SU's most efficient, as the team hit .175 from the floor and had nine kills to just two attack errors. A kill from Johnson and an ace from senior
Erica Lampus gave the Raiders a two-point lead at 6-4. A 6-0 run from Kutztown tied the set at 13-13. Senior
Maddie Clabaugh and Johnson put the Raiders back in the lead with back-to-back kills, 15-13. The Golden Bears came within one at 22-21. Johnson and Wildermuth delivered kills and the Raiders arrived to set point, 24-21. In similar fashion to set two, Bombas ended the match with a kill, 25-22.

Shippensburg is on the road again tomorrow to play PSAC opponent East Stroudsburg at 1 p.m.
