The Shippensburg University volleyball team dropped a pair of contests at the Crimson Hawk Classic on Friday, first falling to Adelphi in four sets before losing a five-set thriller against host IUP.  
 
Shippensburg (1-4) finished the day hitting .117 with 99 kills. Junior 
Isabelle Bombas led the Raiders with 21 kills and a .386 hitting percentage over the course of two matches. She added five blocks.
 
Senior 
Emily Gardner contributed 20 kills and recorded 26 digs on the day. Junior 
Kearstin Davis dished out 77 assists over the course of two matches. Sophomore libero 
Shay Kolivoski paced the back court with 38 digs and six service aces.
 
Shippensburg returns to action tomorrow at the Crimson Hawk Classic, where it will take on West Virginia State at 9 a.m. and Ashland at 5 p.m.
 
Adelphi 3, Ship 1 (16-25, 17-25, 25-21, 17-25)
 
Set one proved to be a back-and-forth battle as neither team was able to take the lead by more than three points. With a 10-0 scoring run, Adelphi claimed control of the set and made the score 22-13. The Panthers closed the set with a kill and two Raider errors.
 
The Panthers kept the momentum in the second set and used an early 6-1 scoring stretch to make it 11-6. The Raiders ended the run with a kill from senior 
Maddie Clabaugh. Adelphi responded with two 3-0 scoring runs to extend their lead to 18-10. SU tried to cut the deficit when they completed a 6-2 scoring stretch, but a 3-0 scoring run from the Panthers closed the set at 25-17.
 
The third set started in similar fashion as the first. Kolivoski delivered three service aces in a row and gave the Raiders a two-point lead at 6-4. Adelphi went on a 2-0 scoring run to tie the set at 6-6. The teams remained tied as each side went on a 3-0 scoring run and made it 9-9. SU pulled ahead with a kill from Davis and two Panther errors. The Raiders claimed the set with a 3-0 scoring run to extend the match to a fourth set.
 
The Panthers took early control in set four and never looked back. A 6-1 scoring stretch put Adelphi in the lead at 15-9. Ultimately Adelphi ended the set at 25-17 to win the match.
 
Shippensburg recorded 42 kills. Gardner led the Raiders with 10 kills. Kolivoski recorded four service aces and 16 digs. Bombas led the team with four blocks and ended the match with a .467 hitting percentage.  
 
The Panthers collected 49 kills with a .232 hitting percentage. Macarty McQueen led the effort with 15 kills and six block assists. Kambel Fisher added 42 assists for Adelphi.
IUP 3, Ship 2 (26-28, 25-18, 8-25, 25-13, 9-15)
 
Kat Negron opened set one with three straight kills that helped the Raiders complete a 5-0 scoring run. IUP answered with a 4-0 scoring run of their own to cut the deficit to 6-5. SU pulled ahead at 14-10, but the Crimson Hawks responded and tied the set at 14-14. The end of the set was a battle on both sides as the teams went back and forth for the set point. The Raiders had three chances to end the set, but IUP rallied and completed a 3-0 run to close the set at 28-26.
 
The Raiders opened set two with a 4-0 scoring run. SU remained in control of the set with the Crimson Hawks never being able to cut the deficit. Two kills from Negron allowed the Raiders to take set two, 25-18 and tied the match at 1-1. Bombas recorded five kills in the set. 
 
The Crimson Hawks started set three with a 11-2 scoring stretch and never looked back. The momentum stayed with IUP as they finished the set, 25-8.
 
SU came out in front in the fourth set with a 6-2 lead. The Raiders collected three points from errors by the Crimson Hawks to lead 10-5. A kill from sophomore 
Hailey Cappleman and three kills from Negron helped extend the lead to 15-8. The Raiders closed the fourth set with a kill from freshman 
Clara Wildermuth to tie the match at 2-2.
 
The Raiders opened the fifth set with a kill from Bombas. IUP answered with two kills, but a 4-0 run from the Raiders that featured a service ace from Negron and kills from Wildermuth, Gardner and Davis put the Raiders ahead 5-2. A 6-0 IUP scoring run put the Crimson Hawks ahead 8-5. Shippensburg was unable to regain the lead in the fifth set as IUP claimed the set 15-9 and the match with it.
 
SU finished with 57 kills. Bombas paced the Raiders with a match-high 14 kills and a hitting percentage of .345. Negron and Wildermuth each added 12 kills. Davis led the team with 45 assists.
 
The Crimson Hawks collected 46 kills with a .161 hitting percentage. IUP also had 16 blocks and 13 aces. Delaney Concannon led the team with 10 kills. Rylee Brown added nine blocks for IUP and Kat Warpinski dished out 19 assists.
