The Shippensburg University men's basketball team dropped a 74-54 decision at Shepherd on Monday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at the Butcher Athletic Center.
Shippensburg (5-14, 2-12 PSAC) trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half before closing the opening frame on an 11-4 run to get within eight points of Shepherd (8-10, 5-8), 36-28, at the intermission. The Rams opened the second half on an 18-5 run that included four three-pointers to put the game out of reach.
Junior
Kyle Whippen had nine points and nine rebounds, while redshirt-freshman
Markus Frank contributed eight points and eight rebounds. Sophomore
Timmy Conner matched Whippen with a team-high nine points. Off the bench, junior
Satchel Ball scored eight points.
Shepherd had three players in double figures, with Dan McClain-Corley scoring a game-high 18 points. Phillip Jordan had 17 points, while Carson Poffenberger had 11 points and nine rebounds. The Rams shot 42 percent from the field and committed just seven turnovers.
Shippensburg will host Cheyney at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Heiges Field House. SU's chapter of The Hidden Opponent (THO), a student-athlete mental health advocacy organization, will be present at the game, and is encouraging fans to wear green in support of mental health awareness.
