SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's basketball team fell to Lock Haven, 72-71, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup on Saturday afternoon at Heiges Field House. The Raiders nearly pulled off a 10-point comeback in the final 90 seconds but came up just short in the end.

Shippensburg (5-13, 2-11 PSAC) shot 41 percent from the field and was 7-of-19 (37 percent) from behind the arc, while Lock Haven (12-5, 10-2) shot 33 percent and was 8-of-21 (38 percent) from three. The Raiders went 10-for-16 at the free-throw line while the Bald Eagles went 18-for-21.

Junior Kyle Whippen earned his fourth double-double of the season going for 12 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore Donovan Hill earned his first career double-double, scoring 15 points with 16 rebounds; both of which are career-highs. Hill also set a new high with three blocks, and Whippen added two more.

Sophomore Timmy Conner and redshirt-freshman Markus Frank each had 12 points and an assist for the Raiders. Graduate Andrew Recchia had four assists and junior Michael Dunn had eight points.

Baskets by Whippen and Conner opened the scoring. The Raiders used the early momentum to get out to a 13-4 lead through the first six minutes of the ballgame. The Bald Eagles chipped away at the SU lead midway through the half, finding a 7-0 scoring run to take their first lead at 20-17 with 7:15 left in the half.

Shippensburg responded to the Lock Haven run with a 13-3 run to retake the lead at 30-23 with 4:13 remaining. The Raiders and Bald Eagles traded small runs to end the half with LHU shortening the gap to 34-32 at the intermission.

Lock Haven controlled a small lead early in the second half after knocking down a three on its first possession. An 8-0 run with back-to-back threes by Dyson Harward gave the Bald Eagles a six-point lead. Shippensburg answered with the next six points to tie the game at 47-47 with 11:25 remaining. From there, the Bald Eagles found a 14-2 scoring run to take a double-digit lead with just over five minutes remaining.

Down by 10, the Raiders drained four threes, two each from Hill and Dunn, in the final minute-and-a-half to bring the game back to just one point with 1.4 seconds remaining. A tipped pass on the ensuing inbound ran the clock out, and the Bald Eagles held on to win it.

Justice Shoats and Dyson Harward each had a double-double for Lock Haven. Shoats scored 24 points with 10 rebounds and five assists; he played all 40 minutes and committed just two turnovers. Harward had 15 points, making 4-of-5 from three-point range, and grabbed 14 rebounds. Bryson Scott had 14 points and seven rebounds.
Shippensburg's seven blocks matches its season high. Both teams grabbed 46 total rebounds. The game featured eight ties and seven lead changes.

SU heads on the road to Shepherd for a 7:30 tip-off on Monday at the Butcher Athletic Center.
