SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team used an eight-point service run late in the third set from sophomore setter
Kearstin Davis to rekindle its early momentum and ultimately achieve a four-set victory Friday night over hard-charging Lock Haven in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Heiges Field House. Set scores were 25-17, 23-25, 25-19 and 25-11.

Shippensburg (11-5, 2-0 PSAC East) slammed a season-high 60 kills and hit a season-high .308 from the field but had to weather a spirited charge in the second and third sets from Lock Haven (6-4, 1-1). The Bald Eagles overcame a less-than-ideal first set to even the match as the visitors never trailed in the second set, hitting .265 from the floor and committing just five attack errors.

SU trailed 18-15 in the third set when senior
Kaitlyn Townsend ripped a kill to achieve a side out, beginning Davis's pivotal service run. Kills from junior
Emily Gardner and Townsend sandwiched an LHU attack error, forcing a Bald Eagle timeout after the Raiders gained a 19-18 lead.

Following the timeout, SU scored four more points – an LHU error, a kill from junior
Maddie Clabaugh, an ace from Davis, and a block by Clabaugh and Townsend led to a second timeout. Davis capped the run with a second ace, concluding what amounted to a 9-0 run for the Raiders. Shippensburg then raced out to an 8-2 start to the fourth set and concluded the match by hitting .467 in the final frame – slamming 14 kills without committing an attack error.

Gardner finished with her sixth double-double of the season, recording season highs with 15 kills and 15 digs while hitting .324 from the floor. Townsend achieved a career high with 14 kills while hitting .379 and contributing three block assists.

Sophomore
Isabelle Bombas slammed a career-high eight kills without an error, swinging .667, and added two solo blocks. Over the last two contests, Bombas has slammed 15 kills on 23 attempts with just one error.

Freshman
Gracen Nutt recorded double-digit kills for the fifth straight match, totaling 12 Friday night while hitting .281.

Fellow freshman
Shay Kolivoski paced the Raiders with 17 digs and had four assists. Her diving save of a teammate's reception to start the fourth set resulted in her crashing into the Raider bench, but it preserved the play that ended in a Bald Eagle attack error – continuing the SU momentum down the stretch.

Davis was her ever-efficient self, recording 51 assists to go along with 12 digs and four aces. Clabaugh finished with eight kills, seven digs and two aces. Senior
Jordan Bowen teamed with Bombas for a block on match point and also contributed a kill.

Lock Haven got six or more kills from four players and hit .131 as a team. Emma Kelly had a team-high 11 kills while libero Madison Eckley had 18 digs. Setter Kelly Gaston had three kills, 32 assists and six digs.

Shippensburg hosts Bloomsburg at 1 p.m. Saturday at Heiges Field House.
