SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team extended its win streak to six matches this afternoon with a clean sweep of Bloomsburg on Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Heiges Field House. Set scores were 25-21, 25-20 and 25-14.
Despite multiple threats for the lead by a persistent Bloomsburg team in the first two sets, SU nearly doubled the Huskies in kills, 42 to 25.
Junior
Maddie Clabaugh and freshman
Gracen Nutt tied for the team-high of 13 kills. Clabaugh swung an efficient .303 and added 14 digs for her second double-double of the season, while Nutt went .229 from the floor to post her sixth straight match with double-digit kills.
Sophomore
Kearstin Davis centered the offensive effort with 38 assists along with six digs. At the libero spot, freshman
Shay Kolivoski posted 10 digs, marking her third consecutive match with double-digit digs. Off the bench, sophomore
Berkley Simmons delivered a career-high of 15 digs and an ace.
Sophomore
Isabelle Bombas continued a run of impressive performances, leading the Raiders with a career-high of three blocks in addition to five kills. Junior
Emily Gardner contributed five kills and two blocks.
Seemingly in control early at 14-8 in the first set, the Raiders were soon met with a 7-1 run by the Huskies to tie the score at 15-15. After a few back-and-forth exchanges, SU regained its momentum with consecutive kills by Bombas and Gardner and went on to force several Husky errors that ended the set.
The second frame followed a similar pattern as Shippensburg fended off a 10-5 swing in Bloomsburg's favor around the midway point. Only up by one at 19-18, the Raiders refocused and closed the set strong with a 6-2 run. Clabaugh and Nutt were aggressive on the attack and combined for 11 of SU's 15 kills in the set.
The Raiders capped the afternoon with a dominant third set. An early 9-1 run proved to be insurmountable for the Huskies.
Bloomsburg finished just .064 from the floor and had three players reach 10 or more digs. Marlee Johnson led the attack with seven kills and Elise Adelman paced the defense with 10 digs and three blocks.
SU is back on the road next weekend with a match against East Stroudsburg on Friday at 7 p.m.
