The Shippensburg University softball team had a season high of 29 hits on the day to sweep Mansfield in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Helen Lutes Field. The Raiders won Game 1, 12-3, and Game 2, 9-6.
Shippensburg (15-10, 9-5 PSAC East) had 16 hits in Game 1 and 13 hits in Game 2. Freshman
Caitlyn Martell was 7-for-10 and added four RBIs. Martell had three doubles, a triple and had a 1.200 slugging percentage. SU scored at least one run in 12 of the 14 innings played.
Nine out of the 10 different starters had a hit, including multiple hits from junior
Morgan Lindsay who had five, including three doubles and three RBIs. Sophomore
Katelyn Minney went 4-for-7 with three RBIs. Minney reached base 10 times and had two steals.
Junior
Taylor Myers had four hits and an RBI in the leadoff spot and added two steals. Freshman
Emilee Sullivan posted three hits in her second straight doubleheader; she also added two RBIs and drew a walk.

Alyssa Nehlen and graduate
Hannah Marsteller both had two hits and an RBI. Masteller, the leading home run hitter in the PSAC, had a solo home run in Game 2.
The starting pitcher for Game 1 was junior
Maelynn Leber, who threw 3.1 innings and had a strikeout. Freshman
Kaira Zamadics entered in relief and got her second win of the season. Zamadics threw 3.2 innings, had three strikeouts and only allowed one hit.
Senior
Emma Flattery earned her sixth win in the circle for the Raiders. Flattery threw 4.2 innings and had a season-high seven strike outs. Sophomore
Alicia Ball started in the circle for the Raiders in Game 2, threw 2.1 innings and had five strikeouts.
Shippensburg ends their four-doubleheader week with a doubleheader at Robb Field, tomorrow against Kutztown with the first pitch at 1 p.m.
Game 1: Shippensburg 12, Mansfield 3
Shippensburg scored at least one run in every inning but the second inning. In the top of the first Myers reached base on an error by the pitcher, while Marsteller reached base on an error by the catcher, to have two runners on base. Lindsay brought home Myers with an RBI groundout. Minney stepped up to bat with an RBI single to right center for a 2-0 lead.
In the third inning, Lindsay doubled to right center and came home after an RBI single by Minney. Nehlen drew a walk and SU had a runner on each corner. Freshman
Rilee Ehrlacher hit a ball into the gap for two RBIs. Sullivan then stepped up to bat and sent it deep to right center for an RBI double. Myers reached base again on an error by the left fielder and Sullivan came home for a 7-0 lead.
Mansfield (9-19, 0-16) scored two runs in the bottom of the third after a single and a double. Marsteller delivered an out of the park solo home run to center field to give the Raiders an 8-0 lead in the top of the fourth. SU scored one run in the top of the fifth.
In the top of the sixth, Lindsay singled to left field and came home with an RBI single by Nehlen to second base. Lindsay again came up swinging in the seventh with a 2-run double to left center for a 12-3 lead.
Game 2: Shippensburg 9, Mansfield 6
The Raiders started where they left off from Game 1 with two runs scored early in the top of the first. Back-to-back singles by Myers and Martell had the Raiders with two runners on base. Both scored off errors by Mansfield for a 2-0 lead.
Mansfield answered back in the bottom of the first with a single to center field to have a one-run deficit. Martell hit a double to left center for an RBI single and a 3-1 lead in the top of the second. However, the Mountaineers answered again in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 3-3. Martell again came out swinging again for another double to left center to bring home Sullivan, for a 4-3 lead.
Mansfield's Kyli Bornman hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to retie the game. SU threatened again in the top of the fifth with a double by Lindsay and an RBI single by Minney to take a 5-4 lead. The Raiders had the bases loaded but were unable to score more runs.
In the top of the sixth, Martell tripled to right center and a throwing error by the Mountaineers brought Martell home for a 6-4 lead.
The top of the seventh saw Zamadics drawing a walk and a single from sophomore
Ally Weaver to have two runners on base. Sullivan ripped an RBI single to center field, while Myers delivered a sacrifice bunt to score another run. Martell finished it off with a single to center field to bring Sullivan home and a 9-4 lead.
Mansfield had the Raiders on their toes in the bottom of the seventh as Fallon Kelley hit a two-run home run to put them three runs away from tying the game. With two outs, the Mountaineers hit back-to-back singles, but the Raiders managed to get the third out with a fly out to Minney.
