SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- The Shippensburg University softball team got revenge over rival Millersville in a crucial Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader on Saturday, with a score of 5-1 in the opener and 8-0 (six innings) in Game 2 on a sunny but windy Senior Day at Robb Field.

Shippensburg (22-15, 16-10 PSAC East) had double-digit hits in both games and did not commit any errors. Graduate
Hannah Marsteller led the team going 5-for-7 and had three RBIs. Marsteller also set the school record for career runs scored with 170, surpassing the mark by Liz Corr (2002-05).

All nine starting Raiders had at least one hit, including junior
Taylor Myers who went 6-for-8 and added four runs. Freshman
Caitlyn Martell went 3-for-5 including a double and four RBIs. Freshman
Kaira Zamadics also had three hits and added an RBI, while junior
Morgan Lindsay had two hits and two RBIs.

The Raider pitching today only allowed one run scored. Senior
Emma Flattery had her ninth win of the season and threw a complete game and only allowed one run. She added five strikeouts. Sophomore
Alicia Ball got her third shutout of the season and delivered her best pitching of the season. Ball threw 6.0 innings, had one strikeout, allowed only three hits, no walks and no wild pitches.

Shippensburg will host Holy Family on Monday for a non-PSAC matchup at 2 p.m.

Game 1: Shippensburg 5, Millersville 1

Shippensburg struck first in the bottom of the first with a bunt single to third base by Myers. Martell moved Myers to scoring position after a sacrifice bunt. Marsteller moved Myers to third with a single through left side and took second on the throw. Lindsay then ripped a two-run single to center field for a 2-0 lead. Marsteller's run scored made it 170 career runs to hold the new school record.

In the bottom of the third inning, SU scored again off a sacrifice fly by Nehlen that brought Marsteller home who reached base off a single through the right side to take a 3-0 lead. Millersville (23-24, 10-15) reduced the deficit to two runs after a solo home run by Gabby D'Ottavio in the top of the fourth.
The Raiders answered back in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly to center field by Martell to bring sophomore
Ally Weaver home after reaching base on a fielder's choice. SU scored one more run in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single by Marsteller to left field.

Game 2: Shippensburg 8, Millersville 0 (six innings) Â

Shippensburg carried the hitting momentum to the second game with an RBI single in the first inning by Marsteller up the middle to bring Myers home, who reached base on a single down the left field line.

The Raiders did not score any more runs until the bottom of the fifth inning. SU had two runners in scoring position after Zamadics singled to the pitcher and Weaver reached base on a Marauder error. Martell ripped a two-run double to left center to bring Weaver and Zamadics home, Marsteller kept the scoring rolling with an RBI single to right field and a 4-0 lead. SU loaded the bases and Minney drew an RBI walk, while Zamadics fought hard in her at bat to hit an RBI single to shortstop for a 6-0 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, back-to-back singles from Weaver and Myers had two runners in scoring position to put the run rule into play. A fielding error by the Marauders allowed one run to score. Martell then ripped another double to left center to bring Myers home and the victory sweep.

Ball held batters to an average of .143 as well as having 13 groundouts and four flyouts. Â
