The Shippensburg University men's soccer team defeated California (Pa.) in its final non-conference match of the season, 1–0, at Roadman Park, marking its first away victory over the side in 20 years.
Senior
Dalton Shifflett scored his first career goal, a match-winning header in the 57th minute assisted by freshman
Cam Henry. Henry's assist earns him his first collegiate points.
Shippensburg (4–3–2) was outshot by California (3–6–1) in the first half 6–3, but a strong second half by the Raiders saw them outshoot the Vulcans 8–3 in the second half. The Raiders totaled seven shots on frame in the match.
Neither team found any breakthrough until Shifflett's goal early in the second half. Henry found the ball at his feet on the touchline with space before he pinged a pinpoint ball to Shifflett who was left alone in the box. Shifflett took his header into the low corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance for a save.
Shippensburg held on for the final 30 minutes as senior
Ryan Glenlast did not have to make any saves. Glenlast earned the shutout, making three saves in his first appearance this season.
SU gets back to conference action at Lock Haven at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
