SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team dropped its senior day match to Bloomsburg, 2–1, at David See Field on Saturday afternoon.
Shippensburg (4–7–2, 1–7–1, PSAC East) celebrated eight seniors before the match; Cody Willoughby (York, Pa./York Suburban), Luke Henry (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro), Avery Warrick (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro), Dalton Shifflett (Frederick, Md./Frederick), Mason Stokes (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest), Nathan Weldon (York, Pa./Susquehannock), George Graham (Scunthorpe, England/Hill House School (University of Rio Grande), and Ryan Glenlast (Lancaster, Pa./Pequea Valley).
Bloomsburg (8–2–4, 6–1–3) struck first just 71 seconds into the match as Kody Besser was left unmarked at the back post for a free header and a 1–0 lead. The Huskies continued with attacking pressure early on, forcing three more saves from Glenlast inside the first 10 minutes. Glenlast tallied five first half saves.
The match opened up in the second half as both teams saw more chances. The Huskies outshout the Raiders 7–6 in the half with both teams putting three on target.
Shippensburg equalized through freshman Cam Henry (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) just 69 seconds into the half. Fellow freshman Ryan Clark (Leicester, England/The Dixie Grammar School (Rio Grande (Ohio)) weighted a perfect pass to Henry who slotted his effort past the goalkeeper for his first career goal. Clark's assist was his first collegiate point.
Alex Wilsterman responded for the Huskies just 12 minutes later after a scramble in the midfield. Owen Hollobaugh found the ball at his feet and sent Wilsterman through on goal. Wilsterman made no mistake, grabbing the 2–1 advantage for Bloomsburg.
Both teams continued to find attacking opportunities. Freshman Evan Brandt (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) nearly answered a minute after the Husky goal, rifling his effort off the crossbar and back into play. The Raiders forced two more saves from Brady Rimple in the final 30 minutes.
Hollobaugh made his presence known again in the 70th minute, nearly finding his second goal if not for the left upright. Willoughby finished with two saves in the half, taking over in goal for the final 45 minutes.
SU returns to action on Wednesday afternoon, travelling to Shepherd for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
