SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's tennis team dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup against West Chester on Tuesday, 7-0, at Robb Sports Complex.
Shippensburg (1-9, 1-2 PSAC East) senior
Jenna Sluymer went three sets in a tough matchup at No.1 singles. Sluymer rallied to force a first-set tiebreaker and was triumphant, claiming the opening frame 7-6. After falling behind 3-0 in the second set, Sluymer rallied again but came up just short, 6-4, to force the third-set tiebreak that was claimed by her opponent Tori Alexander.
The Raiders struggled to get any significant momentum going against a strong Golden Rams team in singles. Senior
Kayla Tryanski won four games in her match at No. 4 singles.
In doubles, the Raiders claimed three games in total, and West Chester (6-5, 4-0) claimed the team doubles point. All singles matches were straight sets except at No. 1 singles. Sophomores
Brighid Cantwell and
Merel Hoekstra claimed two games each.
Shippensburg will be back in action at 11 a.m. Saturday for a non-conference matchup against Clarion at Robb Sports Complex.
