The Shippensburg University men's swimming team delivered some steady performances Friday as it began the weekend at the Gettysburg Invitational hosted by Gettysburg College.
 
Unlike the F&M meet held before Thanksgiving that featured morning prelims and evening finals, Gettysburg meet is set up with timed finals sessions. Friday night's session included the 200-yard freestyle relay, the 500-yard freestyle, the 200-yard IM, the 50-yard freestyle and the 400-yard medley relay.
 
SU bookended Friday with the relays. The quartet of sophomore Zaidian Van Orden, sophomore Nathan VanNatter, graduate Andrew Hale and senior Elijah Zinn delivered a fifth-place time of 1:26.84.
 
The day ended with senior Michael Hannig, graduate Vin Salvatore, senior Alec Burger and Zinn delivering the faster of two Raider times in the 400-yard medley relay, touching the wall in 3:36.50.
 
Junior Michael Salvatori paced Shippensburg in the 500-yard freestyle, swimming 4:46.98 for the fastest time of the season in the event by a Raider. It was one of eight individual Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) cuts on the day for the team.
 
VanNatter swam the 500 freestyle for the first time in his career and delivered a conference cut, touching the wall in 5:02.34. Sophomore David Johnson completed the 200-yard IM in 1:59.27, setting a new personal best as he broke the two-minute mark in the event for the first time in his career.
 
Zinn paced five Raiders with PSAC cuts in the 50-yard freestyle, swimming 21.79 seconds.
 
Saturday's sessions are at 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
