The Shippensburg University men's swimming team advanced at least one individual to finals on its first day of competition Friday at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational held at the Kinkel Aquatic Center.
 
The night began with sophomore Nathan VanNatter, senior Elijah Zinn, sophomore Zaidian Van Orden and graduate Andrew Hale placing sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:25.95.
 
Zinn swam a lifetime best in the 50-yard freestyle of 21.29 seconds that now ranks him tenth in school history for the event. He finished in ninth place, taking the 'B' final, after a morning swim of 21.45 seconds. Van Orden swam 21.88 seconds in the 'C' group final placing him 22nd; he swam 22.04 seconds in the morning.
 
Graduate Andrew Hale led the Raiders in the 200 IM with a second-place finish of 1:54.91 in the 'A' final. He took a second off from his morning swim. Two other Raiders qualified in the evening IM race, junior Michael Salvatori swam 1:57.03 that placed him 10th in the 'B' final, while graduate Vin Salvatore finished 12th with a 1:57.03 time.
 
In the 500-yard free, two Raiders qualified and placed 11th and 12th respectively. Senior JC Greenwood placed 11th with a 4:48.08 time, and sophomore David Johnson finished with a 4:49.78 time.
 
The Raiders ended the night with a fifth-place 400-yard medley relay that had senior Michael Hannig, Hale, Salvatore, VanNatter with a time of 3:28.77.
 
Saturday's prelims will now start at 9:30 a.m. instead of the previously-scheduled 10 a.m. start.
