The Shippensburg University baseball team split its Friday Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader at Kutztown to win three of the four games in the weekend series over the Golden Bears. KU won Game 1, 7-0, and SU won Game 2, 8-3, on a cloudy and damp day at North Campus Field.

Shippensburg (12-8, 10-6 PSAC East) totaled 10 hits in its Game 2 win after being limited to just four singles in the opener. Kutztown (14-12, 8-12) got a Game 1 shutout from Zach Male, who improved to 4-1 after walking one and striking out four over 96 pitches.

Freshman
Gabe Stotler improved his record to 3-0, scattering three runs (two earned) and seven hits over 5.1 innings for the Game 2 win. Stotler struck out four and did not walk a batter. Freshman
Austen Labarre got the final five outs – four via strikeout. He escaped a bases-loaded jam in the seventh with a strikeout to end the game.

Ben Werkheiser had five hits, including a 4-for-4 performance in the nightcap. Werkheiser hit a solo home run and a triple and scored four runs. Graduate
Jordan Yoder reached base four times, singling twice and drawing two walks.

Justin Darden hit a two-run single and a triple, while
Chase Zurawski singled twice and stole two bases.

The Raider pitchers allowed 19 singles and one double on Friday. Freshman
Kaleb Sophy struck out nine in the opener but allowed five runs, nine hits and four walks in 4.1 innings.

Shippensburg travels to No. 29 Millersville on Tuesday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Cooper Park.
