The Shippensburg University baseball team dropped both ends of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader at Millersville on Tuesday, falling to the Marauders by scores of 8-0 and 4-3 in action at Cooper Park.
 
Shippensburg (12-10, 10-8 PSAC East) was within one out of a split with the hosts, as it held a 3-1 lead in Game 2 with one runner on and two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Millersville (12-6, 9-4) rallied against the Raider bullpen, however, as a single, consecutive hit batters, a walk, and a wild pitch gave the Marauders the win.
 
Kiernan Higgins pitched six innings and allowed one run on four hits, walking two and striking out six. Higgins extended a consecutive scoreless innings streak to 20 before yielding a solo home run in the fourth to Luke Trainer – his only blemish of the outing. In his last four starts, Higgins has thrown 23 innings, allowed one run, and struck out 32 batters.
 
Graduate Kyle Lysy threw three innings in Game 1, allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits and striking out five. Five of the eight runs scored by Millersville in the opener were unearned.
 
Millersville starters Conor Cook and Ben Wilchacky combined to allow just two earned runs in 11 innings. Cook, who had pitched just 3.2 innings entering Tuesday, threw a four-hit shutout in the opener, striking out eight. The Marauders slugged three home runs in the doubleheader.
 
At the plate, freshman Andrew Chronister went 3-for-3 in Game 1 but the Raiders only had one other hit against Cook. In Game 2, Justin Byler and Joe Barbera made the most of their starts, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Barbera doubled twice – the only two extra-base hits of the day for the Raiders.
 
Shippensburg has its PSAC "bye weekend" this weekend and is next in action at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fairchild Field when it hosts Millersville to conclude the season series.
