SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University baseball team rallied for a come-from-behind victory in Game 2 of its Tuesday afternoon Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader with Millersville to salvage a split with the rival Marauders at Fairchild Field. Millersville won Game 1, 10-4, while Shippensburg won Game 2, 6-5.
Â
Shippensburg (13-11, 11-9 PSAC East) trailed 5-1 entering the bottom of the fifth inning of Game 2 but scored four times in the frame to even the score. With two on and one out, graduate
JuJu Cason smacked a base hit into right field that took a bizarre hop over the right fielder as he approached, resulting in a two-run triple.
Â
The inning continued with freshman
Morgan Wyatt drawing a walk, and Cason scoring on ball four due to a wild pitch. Freshman
Braden Petty pinch ran for Wyatt, and had a great read on a ball in the dirt to advance to second on another wild pitch.
Ben Werkheiser doubled home Petty, and the Raiders were tied with the Marauders 5-5.
Â
In the bottom of the sixth, freshman
Andrew Chronister hit a leadoff double and was replaced by pinch runner
Nick Zanic. With one out, Zanic moved to third on a balk, and on the next pitch,
Joe Barbera sliced a short fly ball to left field that was just enough to be a sacrifice fly. Zanic arrived as the ball got home, but a creative slide and an out-stretched hand had him nick the plate around the tag of the catcher.
Â
The pitching of
Noah Nabholz helped the Raiders secure the Game 2 win. Entering in relief in the top of the second inning, Nabholz finished the game to improve to 3-0. He yielded a leadoff double in the seventh, but recorded a strikeout, groundout to first and a strikeout to strand the tying run at third base.
Â
Nabholz, whose single game highs entering Tuesday were 2.2 innings and three strikeouts, threw 5.1 innings and struck out seven against the Marauders. He allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits and walked just one.
Â
Justin Darden, Cason and Werkheiser all finished the doubleheader 3-for-7 with two RBIs.
Lake Lloyd,
Chase Zurawski and Barbera had one RBI.
Â
Kaleb Sophy was the starting pitcher in Game 1, allowing four runs (three earned) in three innings while striking out five.

Shippensburg hosts Mansfield at noon Friday at Fairchild Field.
