The Shippensburg University women's tennis team came up short in its 2021 season opener on Monday, dropping a 7-0 decision to Kutztown in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Keystone Courts.

Shippensburg (0-1, 0-1 PSAC East) claimed 17 singles games against Kutztown (1-2, 1-2), a squad who had already played two matches this season. The most exciting match came at No. 2 singles, as
Jenna Sluymer went into a tiebreaker with Amanda Grebosky. Sluymer took the first set, 6-4, but Grebosky took the second set, 6-1, and the tiebreaker, 10-5.

In doubles, the team of
Skylar Walder and Sluymer claimed a win at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, but the Golden Bears won No. 2 doubles and No. 3 doubles to claim the doubles match point.
Jessalyn Morrow and
Hannah Wieller won three games at No. 3 doubles.

Also in singles play,
Kayla Tryanski claimed five games at No. 4 singles in a 6-3, 6-2 setback to Jess Marks. Walder and
Merel Hoekstra each won two singles games at No. 1 and No. 5 singles, respectively.

Shippensburg returns to action Tuesday, April 6 with a league match at West Chester.
