Nicola Puggé and
Carson Pennings completed the pentathlon Friday night to kick off the 2021-22 Shippensburg University women's indoor track & field season at Bucknell's Bison Opener.
Puggé finished in fourth place out of 16 competitors, totaling a score of 3,111 points that is within striking distance of a provisional qualifier. Pennings placed 11th with a PR score of 2,573 points.
Puggé had the top shot put of the competition, with her top throw traveling 36 feet, 4 ¾ inches (11.09 meters). She ran the 60-meter hurdles in an impressive 9.64 seconds and cleared 4 feet, 10 ½ inches (1.49 meters) in the high jump.
Pennings posted a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying time in the 60-meter hurdles with a huge PR of 9.44 seconds. She also came close to her indoor PR in the long jump with a top distance of 16 feet, 2 ¼ inches (4.93 meters).
The Bison Opener resumes Saturday morning, beginning with field competition before noon.
