SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team lost 4-3 on Wednesday in a rematch with Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opponent Millersville at David See Field.
Shippensburg (4-6-3, 2-6 PSAC East) was down four goals at halftime but rallied in the second half behind the first career goals by three different players. Just 45 seconds into the second half, the Raider rally began when freshman
Spencer Siverling dribbled through the middle and scored off a pass from junior
Chase Estes. The assist for Estes was his first collegiate point.
In the 57th minute, freshman
Omario Duncan got his first career goal by hammering home the rebound of a shot by freshman
Nathan Weldon – of which the assist was the first collegiate point for Weldon.
It got really interesting with 2:39 left in regulation as senior
Harry Kershaw sent a cross into the box that was collected by freshman
Ashton Davies, whose finish marked his first career goal. The Raiders had one good scoring chance in the final minute that went for naught.
Millersville (9-4, 5-3 PSAC East) controlled the opening half, scoring its first of four goals in the ninth minute when Matteo Adiletta finished a touch pass from Anthony Calamia. Six minutes later, Bob Hennessey collected a goal kick and sent it to Spencer Shortt for a breakaway goal.
In the 21st minute, Hennessey scored a goal of his own off an assist from Adiletta which was a shot that was saved by freshman
Ryan Glenlast. Just 90 seconds later, Hennessey scored again off an Adiletta assist, and the Marauders had a 4-0 lead less than 23 minutes into the match.
Glenlast finished with four saves, while Bobby Bosch made two saves for the Marauders.
Wednesday marked the first time that the Raiders scored three goals against Millersville since Oct. 16, 2010, a 3-1 Raider victory. It was just the sixth time Shippensburg scored three goals or more against Millersville, and the Raiders fell to 4-2 in such matches.
Shippensburg will play again at 1 p.m. Saturday at Shepherd.
