The Shippensburg University baseball team came up short in both games of a doubleheader at Charleston on Saturday, dropping a 7-5 seven-inning game and a 3-0 nine-inning game to the Golden Eagles.
Â
Shippensburg (5-10) and Charleston (8-4) were 3-3 through five innings of the opener before the Golden Eagles hung a four-spot in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Raiders scored twice in the top of the seventh and got the tying run to the plate in their final at-bat but came up short.
Â
UC starter Logan Campbell was the story of Game 2, as he threw a one-hit shutout and struck out 18 hitters. Senior
Zack Zoller was the only Raider to reach against Campbell, as he drew a walk and later singled.
Â
In Game 1, senior
Jacob Pollock hit a two-run double and sophomore
Lake Lloyd hit a sacrifice fly in a three-run fourth inning. Junior
Ben Werkheiser hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh that got the Raiders in late striking distance.
Â
The three runs yielded by the Raiders in Game 2 came in the eighth inning and were unearned. Redshirt-junior
Noah Inch threw five innings, striking out four. Redshirt-sophomore
Kiernan Higgins struck out four and allowed just two hits in three innings of relief.
Â
Shippensburg faces Charleston at noon Sunday to conclude the weekend series.
