The Shippensburg University baseball team was defeated in a pair of nine-inning games at Stanislaus State on Saturday, falling to the undefeated Warriors by scores of 7-2 and 9-4 in action from 60-degree Turlock, California.

Shippensburg (0-3) held a 2-1 lead through the first 2 ½ innings of Game 1 and were within a run of the lead through 3 ½ innings of Game 2, but the middle innings proved decisive for Stanislaus State (6-0). The Warriors scored three runs in the sixth inning of Game 1 and four runs in the sixth inning of Game 2 to gain the edge in each contest.

Sophomore
Tony Vavaroutsos and junior
Ben Werkheiser each finished with multiple hits on the day. Vavaroutsos went 3-for-8 in the doubleheader, including a two-run single in Game 2. Werkheiser had a pair of doubles and reached base four times overall on the day.

The Raiders drew nine walks on the day. Junior
Chase Zurawski had a hit in Game 1 and drew three walks in Game 2. Junior
Scout Knotts finished the day with a hit and two walks. Sophomore
Justin Darden had a two-run single in Game 2.

Senior
Kyle Lysy had a strong start in Game 1, scattering four runs (two earned) on six hits in five innings. Lysy walked one and struck out five in the longest outing of his career.

Redshirt-sophomore
Kiernan Higgins relieved Lysy and threw the final three innings of Game 1, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out two.

Four Raiders worked the mound in the nightcap. Sophomore
Noah Nabholz got the start, allowing three runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 2.1 innings. Senior
Jack Jenkens gave up two unearned runs in 2.2 innings of relief with one strikeout.

After allowing a pair of singles and committing a balk, freshman
Austen Labarre recovered to allow just three hits over three innings of relief, striking out four without a walk.

Shippensburg is back in action next weekend with a three-game series at Catawba. The Raiders play a doubleheader with the Indians beginning next Saturday at 1 p.m.
