Jazmin Petrantonio notched a goal and an assist on Saturday as the Shippensburg University field hockey team opened the season with a 4-0 shutout of Belmont Abbey on a 90-degree day in a match played at Queens University in Charlotte.

Shippensburg (1-0) posted a 27-4 edge in total shots and a 13-3 edge in penalty corners, as redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper
Megan Lay credited with two saves en route to the shutout.

Playing its first official match with the NCAA's new timing format of four quarters, the Raiders scored three times in the opening 15 minutes – with Sluymer's first goal coming just more than three minutes in. Her second goal was scored just four seconds before the end of the first quarter.

Shippensburg returns to action at noon Sunday with a match against Queens to complete the weekend.
