SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team got 10 kills each from seniors
Gabriella Johnson,
Kendall Johnson and
Samantha Webber on Friday night en route to a 3-0 sweep of Chestnut Hill in the 2019 season opener from Heiges Field House.

Set scores were 25-15, 25-16 and 25-9.

Shippensburg (1-0) hit .311 as a team and served 10 aces.
Kendall Johnson hit .562 and Webber hit .529, with each committing just one error over 16 and 17 attempts respectively.
Gabriella Johnson posted a double-double, contributing 15 digs, swinging .304 and serving three aces.

Emily Hangen had 35 assists, six digs and a kill. Senior
Megan Forstburg led the Raiders with 16 digs.

Redshirt-freshman
Syera McCormick served three consecutive aces during a late run in the second set. Sophomore
Keri Gearhart had two aces late in the third set.

Freshman
Kaitlyn Townsend impressed in her debut with five kills and a team-high four block assists off the bench. Townsend slammed the final kill of the match to clinch the victory for the Raiders and hit .214 overall. Juniors
Alana Pergine and
Gianna Sigado added three kills.

Shippensburg competes twice Saturday – first at noon versus Roberts Wesleyan and again at 7 p.m. versus Walsh.
