SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 6 Shippensburg University field hockey team fell 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match to No. 2 West Chester from Robb Sports Complex.
Â
Shippensburg (2-3) managed seven penalty corners and five shots against West Chester (4-0), but was unable to convert the chances into a goal. The best chance for the Raiders came in the 40th minute when a shot from junior
Jazmin Petrantonio rifled off the post during a penalty corner.
Â
The lone goal of the game was scored just eight minutes into the contest by West Chester senior Kat Roncoroni, who was left unmarked in the right side of the scoring arc and finished a shot at close range.
Â
Redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper
Megan Lay was strong in goal, finishing one shy of a season high with seven saves.
Â
Shippensburg returns to action at 6 p.m. Friday when it hosts Mercyhurst from Robb Sports Complex. Friday's match is the last of the four conference-mandated matches against PSAC opponents that do not count toward the conference standings.
