Jack Goertzen earned First Team Google Cloud Academic All-District® 2 honors on Thursday, a prestigious scholastic award sponsored by the College Sports Information Directors Association of America (CoSIDA).
Goertzen, a biology (pre-dentistry) major, is set to graduate this weekend and boasts a 3.86 cumulative grade-point average (GPA). It is the third straight year that Goertzen has received an Academic All-District® classification.
Named to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Second Team earlier this week, Goertzen tied for second in the league with a career-high 13 home runs, five more than his three-year career total entering his senior season.
Goertzen also produced single-season career highs with 32 RBIs, 37 runs and a .609 slugging percentage while also recording seven doubles and 22 walks. He finished the year with 14 multi-hit games (including six three-hit games) and 10 multi-RBI games. Six of his home runs came against PSAC East opponents.
In addition to his work on the field and in the classroom, Goertzen served Shippensburg as the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and as a representative for the Student Government Association (SGA).
District 2 comprises all baseball schools in the PSAC, Mountain East Conference (MEC) and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA)
Goertzen is one of two Raiders to receive Academic All-District accolades this season along with infielder
Ty Painter.
The 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
The Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
