SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team got a career-high seven goals from sophomore Alana Cardaci and a career-high six assists from junior Kami Holt on Wednesday to defeat Lock Haven for the first time in 15 years, as the Raiders posted a 17-9 victory over the Bald Eagles in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (5-10, 3-8 PSAC) out-scored Lock Haven (3-13, 1-10) by an 11-2 margin in the second half to snap an 18-game losing skid to the Bald Eagles that dated back to 2004. The Raiders finished Wednesday with a 36-13 advantage in shots on goal, matched a season low with 15 turnovers and won the circle with an 18-10 edge in draw controls.

SU trailed 7-6 at halftime but scored twice in the first 2:10 of the second half to gain a lead it ultimately would not relinquish. With the score 8-8 at the 26:00 mark, Shippensburg scored seven straight goals over the next 15 minutes to gain control.

Cardaci's seven goals mark the most by a Raider in a single game since Bennett Widlake scored seven against Slippery Rock on March 29, 2014. Holt's six assists are the most by a Raider in a single game since Lindsey Kennedy had eight at Gannon on April 20, 2013.

Wednesday's performance gives Cardaci 51 goals this season – tied for fourth-most in the PSAC. Cardaci has scored the most goals in a single season by a Raider in 12 years – dating back to Kristin Crutchfield's 53 goals in 2007.

Sophomore Maddy Siejk scored her first hat trick of the season and the third of her career, finishing with three goals and two assists. Fellow sophomore Jessica DeMarte entered the game with the just two goals on the year yet finished with her first career hat trick, finding the back of the net on all three of her shot attempts.

Senior Kyra Shank scored twice in her final home game, and freshman Gabby Savarino added a tally. Sophomore Jena MacDonald had two assists and freshman Sydney Costanza had one assist.

Senior Madi Newman finished with a goal and an assist, bringing her career points total to 96. She is vying to become the later Raider to hit the 100-point mark for a career; Allison Fugate (103) was the latest to achieve the feat last season.

The Raiders finished with 12 caused turnovers, including a game-high and season-high three by freshman Hannah Seifried. Seifried also had three draw controls. MacDonald and Savarino each had two caused turnovers.

Senior Valerie Hertz exceled one last time on the Robb Sports Complex turf – leading the team with five groundballs, matching Savarino for the team lead with five draw controls and recording two caused turnovers. She also came tantalizingly close to her first career goal, but was denied on back-to-back shot attempts during a scoring chance in the first half.

Hertz enters her final game with a school-record 150 career caused turnovers, 224 career groundballs (second all-time at SU behind Annemarie Cericola (230)) and 180 career draw controls (second all-time at SU behind Max Barkley (265)).

Of SU's 29 groundballs, freshman McKenna Keller collected a career-high four, MacDonald and Savarino matched a career high with three, and freshman goalkeeper Shaely Gamble collected three. Gamble also made four saves in the win.
