SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team got a career-high seven goals from sophomore
Alana Cardaci and a career-high six assists from junior
Kami Holt on Wednesday to defeat Lock Haven for the first time in 15 years, as the Raiders posted a 17-9 victory over the Bald Eagles in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from Robb Sports Complex.
Shippensburg (5-10, 3-8 PSAC) out-scored Lock Haven (3-13, 1-10) by an 11-2 margin in the second half to snap an 18-game losing skid to the Bald Eagles that dated back to 2004. The Raiders finished Wednesday with a 36-13 advantage in shots on goal, matched a season low with 15 turnovers and won the circle with an 18-10 edge in draw controls.
SU trailed 7-6 at halftime but scored twice in the first 2:10 of the second half to gain a lead it ultimately would not relinquish. With the score 8-8 at the 26:00 mark, Shippensburg scored seven straight goals over the next 15 minutes to gain control.
Cardaci's seven goals mark the most by a Raider in a single game since Bennett Widlake scored seven against Slippery Rock on March 29, 2014. Holt's six assists are the most by a Raider in a single game since Lindsey Kennedy had eight at Gannon on April 20, 2013.
Wednesday's performance gives Cardaci 51 goals this season – tied for fourth-most in the PSAC. Cardaci has scored the most goals in a single season by a Raider in 12 years – dating back to Kristin Crutchfield's 53 goals in 2007.
