RECAP: Lacrosse Falls on the Road at Edinboro, 12-9

Costanza scores twice for the Raiders in the loss

The Shippensburg University lacrosse team was unable to overcome Edinboro on Saturday in a road Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup, falling 12-9 to the Fighting Scots at Sox Harrison Stadium.
 
Shippensburg (4-10, 2-8 PSAC) trailed 4-1 through the first 19 minutes of play but rallied to get within two goals of Edinboro (3-12, 2-8), 5-3, at halftime. The Raiders tied the score at 5-5 with 26:39 remaining, but the Fighting Scots scored seven of the next 10 goals to take control. SU got as close as 10-8 with 4:38 left.
 
Freshman Sydney Costanza scored twice on free-position shots in the second half to finish as the only Raider with multiple goals in the game. Junior Kami Holt had one goal and two assists, while senior Madi Newman had one goal and one assist.
 
The other Raider goal scorers on the day were senior Kyra Shank, sophomore Alana Cardaci, freshman Gabby Savarino, sophomore Jena MacDonald and sophomore Jessica DeMarte .
 
Newman and senior Valerie Hertz combined for nine of Shippensburg's 14 draw controls, as the Raiders finished with a 14-9 advantage in the category. Newman also had four groundballs and a caused turnover, while Hertz contributed three groundballs and two caused turnovers.
 
DeMarte and freshman Hannah Seifried each won two draw controls, while sophomore Maddy Siejk and freshman McKenna Keller each recorded multiple caused turnovers.
 
Freshman Shaely Gamble made nine saves for the Raiders.
