SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team played a close game with league rival Millersville on Tuesday but came up short, dropping a 15-12 decision to the Marauders in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (4-5, 2-3 PSAC) held early leads of 2-0 and 3-2 over Millersville (7-3, 5-1) before the Marauders reeled off a four-goal run and kept the Raiders off the scoresheet for a 20-minute span of the first half. SU trailed 6-4 at halftime and was within two goals of the lead on multiple occasions in the second half, but could not get any closer down the stretch.

Alana Cardaci scored four goals and had two assists, marking her third straight hat trick and sixth overall of the season. Senior

Sydney Costanza each scored twice; Shank added two groundballs.

Jena MacDonald contributed a season-high four assists, marking her fifth game this season with multiple assists.

Valerie Hertz was superb, leading all players with four caused turnovers and helping pace the Raiders with four groundballs. Hertz also had seven of SU's 14 draw controls. She is now one of three Raiders with 200 or more career groundballs (204), and needs three groundballs to move into second on SU's all-time list for the category.

Seifried won three draw controls; while Newman had two draw controls, two caused turnovers and two groundballs. Sophomore
Madi Jones equaled Hertz with four groundballs and freshman
Julia Leishear added three groundballs.

The visiting Marauders got hat tricks from Erin Fagan, Gillian Zimmerman and Grace Cobaugh. Goalkeeper Shannon Davis made 13 saves and led all players with five groundballs. Genevieve Speights led all players with eight draw controls.

Shippensburg equaled a season low with 16 turnovers (including just six in the first half). The majority of the statistical categories were all but even; MU held a 15-14 edge in draw controls and a 23-20 edge in shots on goal, while fouls (26) and groundballs (23) were identical.
