The Shippensburg University softball team split a neutral-site doubleheader against West Liberty on Saturday, winning Game 2 by a 5-1 score after dropping the opener in walk-off fashion to the Hilltoppers, 5-4, in games played at Glenville State University.

Shippensburg (5-5) trailed 4-1 in Game 1 as it entered its final at-bat in the top of the seventh, but rallied to tie the score with three runs – including a game-tying, two-out, two-run single by freshman
Grace Palmieri. West Liberty (3-9), however, started the bottom of the seventh with a single, which was followed by an error and two passed balls to end the game.

All of the runs in Game 2 came off home runs. Freshman
Hannah Marsteller hit two home runs, driving in three runs, and sophomore
Courtney Coy slammed a two-run homer. Coy finished the day 4-for-7 at the plate with two extra-base hits and three RBIs. Freshman
Morgan DeFeo was also 4-for-7 at the plate.

Tressa Kagarise improved to 3-0 with the Game 2 win from the circle. Kagarise threw a complete game, striking out seven without walking a batter. Senior
Taryn Wilson struck out eight in Game 1.
