SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team yielded just two goals in each half on Wednesday, as the Raiders claimed a 9-4 victory over Shepherd in a non-conference matchup on a cold, sunny and breezy day at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (2-0) got two goals each from sophomore Alana Cardaci, senior Kyra Shank and senior Madi Newman, while freshman Sydney Costanza, sophomore Maddy Siejk and freshman Hannah Seifried also added a tally. Costanza, Cardaci and sophomore Jena MacDonald provided assists.

Freshman goalkeeper Shaely Gamble made 11 saves, including seven in the second half, to improve to 2-0 on the season. Senior Valerie Hertz had seven groundballs and five draw controls, while Newman had five groundballs and a team-high three groundballs. Four Raiders had at least three groundballs, including Siejk and junior Kami Holt.

The two teams combined for just five first-half goals, with the Raiders holding a 3-2 lead at the intermission. With the score 4-3 in Shippensburg's favor with 22:00 minutes remaining, the Raiders unleashed a 4-0 run over the next 12 minutes to take control.

Shepherd (0-2) stayed in the game thanks to some strong goaltending, as Hailey Bennett made 14 of her 20 saves in the first half. Lillian Funke had a hat trick for the visitors.
