SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team could not overcome a quick start from visiting Georgian Court on Friday, as the Raiders dropped a high-scoring affair to the Lions by a 19-12 margin from a snowy and frigid Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (2-1) fell behind 5-0 after the opening eight minutes and was unable to grab the lead away from Georgian Court (2-2). The Raiders trailed 10-3 at halftime but opened the second half with a four-goal run to make it 10-7. SU, however, was unable to get closer than that three-goal margin for the remainder of the game.

Statistics were fairly even, with Shippensburg posting a 17-16 edge in draw controls and committing one less turnover than the Lions. Shots on goal were 26-25 in favor of the Raiders -- SU had five shots ring off the post.

Alana Cardaci notched a hat trick and had an assist, while senior
Madi Newman (one goal, two assists), junior
Kami Holt (two goals, one assists) and sophomore
Jena MacDonald (one goal, two assists) all had three-point games.

Valerie Hertz added three draw controls. MacDonald, Newman and freshman goalkeeper
Shaely Gamble each paced the Raiders with three groundballs.

Maddy Siejk had two goals, three caused turnovers and two groundballs. Holt and senior
Morgan Stone were credited with two caused turnovers; Stone added two groundballs as well.

Kyra Shank tallied a goal and an assist, while freshmen
Sydney Costanza and
Gabby Savarino each found the back of the cage.

Georgian Court got seven goals and six draw controls from Samantha Fernandez, along with hat tricks from Nicole Barbella, Angelina Palermo and Arianna Quinlan. Goaltender Amber Neumann made nine saves for the Lions. Gamble made five saves for the Raiders.
