Patrick Luebben Named to 2018-19 PSAC Fall Top 10 Squad

Luebben becomes SU’s first men’s soccer player to receive a PSAC Top 10 honor

32138Shippensburg University senior men's soccer player Patrick Luebben was named Friday afternoon to the prestigious 2018-19 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Fall Top 10 squad.

Luebben becomes the first SU men's soccer player to ever receive a PSAC Top 10 award – the seasonal league honor was first issued in the fall of 1997.

Shippensburg has now totaled 68 all-time PSAC Top 10 awards, the most of any conference school. SU has also had at least one PSAC Top 10 honoree in nine consecutive award seasons dating back to Fall 2015, which is the longest active streak in the conference.

To be a candidate for the PSAC Top 10 Awards, a student-athlete must achieve a minimum of a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and be a starter or key reserve with legitimate athletic credentials. A total of five men and five women are selected as award winners after each of the three competitive seasons (Fall, Winter, Spring).

Luebben is one of just five Top 10 award winners selected from a talented group of men's nominees spanning numerous sports. He was honored alongside West Chester's Kyle Hoops (soccer), Bloomsburg's Nick McGuire (cross country), Gannon's Joseph Westrick (cross country) and Slippery Rock's Steve Gaviglia (football). The combined GPA of the men's PSAC Top 10 award winners this fall is 3.85.

A dual major in marketing and management (with an international management concentration), Luebben is set to enter his final semester of classes this spring with a 3.92 cumulative grade-point average (GPA). His success on the field and in the classroom merited a selection to the 2018 CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District team announced in November.

Luebben earned All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) First Team, Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-Region First Team and United Soccer Coaches (USC) All-Region Second Team honors for a season in which he totaled five goals, three assists and 13 points from his midfield position. He started and appeared in all but one match, ranking second on the squad in goals and points while tying for second in assists.

Shippensburg's defensive work this season was among its best in decades, as the Raiders totaled eight shutouts and yielded just 14 goals – its best single-season outputs in each category since 1987. Luebben and his SU teammates posted a 10-3-4 record and reached the PSAC Quarterfinals and hosted a playoff game for the first time in eight years.
