Shippensburg University Athletics mourns the loss of Craig Hottenstein '73/'79M, a former men's soccer captain who served as the team's starting goalkeeper and later joined the coaching staff.
SU extends its condolences to his family and friends.
Hottenstein was inducted into the Shippensburg University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013. He was the starting goalkeeper in every game in his career for the Raiders from 1969-72. His 13 career shutouts are the second-most in school history. To this day, Hottenstein holds school records for career saves (461) and shutouts in one season (seven in 1971).
After graduation, Hottenstein was an assistant coach for SU in 1977 and was the head coach in 1978 when Tony Puglisi was on sabbatical. The Raiders went 8-6 that season, won a PSAC Eastern Division title and reached the finals of the PSAC Tournament but lost in the championship game to Lock Haven on penalty kicks, 0-0 (3-0).
