The Shippensburg University men's soccer team got goals from five different players Wednesday night as the Raiders maintained their recent offensive prowess with a 5-1 road victory at Nyack on a warm and muggy evening from Nyack High School in New York.
Shippensburg (2-1) scored three times in the opening half – including twice in the opening 17 minutes – and added two more tallies after the intermission. Over the last two matches, SU has combined for 12 goals.
Freshman
Julian Horstmann opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a goal off a corner kick; he was assisted on the play by his fellow countryman, senior
Patrick Luebben.
Senior
Cole Kropnick slammed home his fourth goal of the season in the 17th minute by finishing a rebound of his initial shot. Nine minutes later, SU took a 3-1 lead on a strike from junior
Colin Marks that was assisted by Luebben.
In the second half, Luebben capitalized on an opportunity to score in the 68th minute – he finished the night with four points total (one goal, two assists). SU's final tally came less than five minutes after Luebben's goal, as senior
Justin Blumberg scored the second goal of his career off an assist from redshirt-sophomore
Erik Espinoza.
Redshirt-junior goalkeeper
Garret Watson earned the victory for the Raiders.
Nyack (1-2), a squad who defeated Franklin Pierce in its opener, dropped its second straight.
