SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's tennis team held its first match of the 2018-19 season Friday afternoon, dropping a 7-0 decision to visiting Jefferson University in a non-conference showdown from the Robb Sports Complex Tennis Courts.
Â
Shippensburg (0-1) held its only home match of the fall and celebrated Senior Day before the proceedings. The Raiders have four seniors in the 2018-19 campaign:
Gabbie Binder,
Megan Moorhead,
Victoria Galanti and
Kaylin Gallagher.
Â
Gallagher was strong in No. 1 singles, winning three games against Marta Yevstakhevych. Galanti claimed two singles games. Both women will represent the Raiders Saturday at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Individual Championships in Bloomsburg. Â
Â
In doubles competition, Gallagher and Moorhead won a game at the No. 1 flight, while freshmen
Kayla Tryanski and
Mary Kate Mullarkey teamed up to win a game at the No. 3 flight.
This was the first SU dual match to feature the new NCAA Division II scoring format adopted for this season in which doubles counts as one decision. The team that wins the majority of the doubles matches earns one team point toward the team score.Â
Â
UP NEXT: PSAC Individual Championships, beginning tomorrow at Bloomsburg.
