SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Recent Shippensburg University graduate and men's basketball All-American Dustin Sleva '18 (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) is scheduled to compete this weekend in The Basketball Tournament (TBT), a national 72-team, single-elimination tournament.  
 
Sleva will play for team "Sideline Cancer" alongside several recent graduates of Atlantic Region Division II institutions including Seger Bonifant (West Liberty), Duane Johnson (East Stroudsburg) and Nick Novak (Pitt-Johnstown). The team is coached by Millersville great Charlie Parker.
 
The Sideline Cancer team earned a bid through fan voting that was conducted from April 1 – June 1. It is one of 18 teams to compete in the Brooklyn regional this weekend (July 21-22).  Each of TBT's four regionals will send four teams to the Super 16 and the subsequent quarterfinals, which will take place July 28-29 in Atlanta. The semifinals and finals will be in Baltimore at Morgan State University on August 2-3.
 
Sleva finished a historic Raider career as Shippensburg's all-time leading scorer (2,071 points – eighth in PSAC history), all-time leading rebounder (1,140 – tenth in PSAC history), and all-time leader in double-doubles (58). He is one of four players in PSAC history, and the only one from SU, with at least 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds.
 
The Sideline Cancer team is playing in honor of The Greg and Cathy Griffith Family Foundation, a Hollidaysburg-based foundation leading the way for Pancreatic Cancer advocacy and research. If the Sideline Cancer team wins, a portion of the prize winnings will be awarded to the Griffith Family Foundation.
 
Every game of the TBT this year will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks. A full schedule of the Brooklyn Regional is linked above and also HERE. The Sideline Cancer team is the No. 12 seed in the Brooklyn Regional.

Note: For basketball fans who watch TBT games, one of the most interesting aspects is the inclusion of the "Elam Ending" rule. At the first deadball after the four-minute mark in the fourth quarter, the game clock shuts off. A Target Score is set by adding seven to the leading team's score, and the first team to reach the Target Score wins. The purpose is to eliminate deliberate fouling at the end of games and ensure that the final minutes are played at the same pace and flow as the rest of the game.
