The Shippensburg University men's basketball team finished the regular season on a strong note, posting an 87-75 win at Lock Haven in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action Saturday at Thomas Fieldhouse.
Shippensburg (14-14, 9-12 PSAC) guard
Markus Frank converted 10-of-11 of his attempts from the field (91.0 percent) – a Raider individual season best tally – resulting in a game-high 26 points. Frank paced an efficient SU squad that shot 56.7 percent overall (34-of-60) and 65.4 percent (17-of-26) in the second half.
Lock Haven (8-18, 6-15) led by as many as eight points in the first half prior to a 10-1 Shippensburg run just before the break. SU held the Bald Eagles scoreless in the final 2:50 of the frame to overcome the early deficit and take a 37-32 edge into halftime.
Trey Martin kept the Raiders afloat during the opening twenty minutes, scoring all 10 of his points in the first half.
Everything was falling for the Raiders following the intermission. The second stanza – and Frank's night – could be summed up by an incredible highlight-reel scoop shot that he converted while falling away from the basket with 11:38 remaining which give the redshirt-junior guard his 14th 20-point game of the season. Frank also finished a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range.
Jaydon Smith finished with 19 points on 57.1 percent shooting (8-of-14). He also produced six rebounds and three assists.
Michael Dickson totaled 11 points as well as a team-high six assists and eight rebounds.
Timmy Conner added 13.
Keith Warren paced the Bald Eagles with 21 points.
Shippensburg, locked into the East No. 5 seed entering competition Saturday, had to wait until the dust settled above them Saturday to find out their opponent in the opening round of the PSAC Tournament.
The Raiders will travel to No. 4 seed East Stroudsburg Monday by virtue of the Warriors' 95-87 loss at West Chester Saturday. Tip off time from Koehler Fieldhouse is set for 7:30 p.m.
