The Shippensburg University baseball team dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at East Stroudsburg from Mitterling Field.
Â
Shippensburg (22-21, 11-13 PSAC East) fell to East Stroudsburg (21-20, 10-14) in Game 1 by a score of 4-1. The final in Game 2 was 7-1 in favor of East Stroudsburg. The nightcap was a called with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning after inclement weather moved in.
Â
Junior
Cash Gladfelter finished 2-for-4 at the plate on the day including a leadoff home run in Game 1 to dead center field. Senior
Nick Spangler also had a multi-hit day at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a double and a RBI.
Â
Senior
Andy Crum started on the mound for SU in Game 1 while junior
Michael Hope made his second consecutive and second career conference start in Game 2. Freshman
Dalton Oates pitched 0.2 shutout innings in Game 1 out of the Raider bullpen.
Â
Shippensburg will return to action Tuesday at 3 p.m. when it will travel to Shepherdstown, West Virginia to take on Shepherd in single nine-inning game.
Â
Game 1
Â
Gladfelter got on the board first with a lead-off home run to center field, his third home run of the season. East Stroudsburg would tie the game in fourth after Crum cruised through the first three innings.
Â
The Warriors took the lead in the fifth and added two insurance runs in the sixth to take down the Raiders, 4-1. Crum pitched 5.1 innings and recorded seven strikeouts.
Â
Game 2
Â
Shippensburg scored first in Game 2 as well, on an RBI-single by Spangler that scored freshman
Scout Knotts in the top of the third. The Warriors responded in their ensuing at-bat, scoring three runs via a three-run home run from Christian Rishel to take the lead.
Â
The game was eventually called after rain and lightning moved into the area. The stats from the bottom of the fifth inning remain due to NCAA rulebook provisions 5-8-b-1 and Section 28 - A.R. 1.

Standings Update
Â
Shippensburg currently sits in sixth place in the PSAC East pending other results. Weather wreaked havoc on other East schools on Saturday, as the second game of both the Kutztown-Mansfield and Millersville-Lock Haven doubleheaders were suspended or postponed. Therefore, KU (12-11) is currently fourth, Lock Haven (11-12) is fifth, Shippensburg (11-13) sixth and East Stroudsburg (10-14) is seventh.
Â
All four teams are currently in play for the final playoff spot, but next weekend's Kutztown-Shippensburg series will likely go a long way in helping to make the playoff picture much clearer. Shippensburg will have to win the series over the Golden Bears (3-1 or 4-0 record in series) to have a chance to remain in the conference playoff picture.
